MEDICS AGAINST VIOLENCE
prevention is better than cure

We are a Scottish charity working to prevent violence.

We’ve been doing that since 2008, over that time Scotland’s violence figures have fallen, but we still have much to do.

We believe prevention is better than cure, we tackle violence and the issues associated with it using an evidence based public health approach.

Our staff and volunteer teams work in health, education and communities.

HEALTH

Our Navigator family of programmes are based in 10 of Scotland’s Emergency Departments. Youth Navigator and Family Navigators work alongside our Emergency Department colleagues to provide support to people who present with a wide range of social issues that sometimes involve violence. 10 years on we’ve offered support to over 12,000 people to make positive changes to their lives

EDUCATION

We’ve been working with schools and youth clubs for over 15 years. Our clinical volunteer led MAV Academy programme has delivered lessons about the health consequences of violence to nearly 100,000 young people in Scotland. Our On the Edge programme works with young people at risk of violence in Glasgow’s East End helping them to see a different future for themselves.

COMMUNITIES

Our Navigators provide outreach support to people within their own communities and by linking them with our many community partners.

We provide training on domestic abuse to hospitals, universities, workplaces and local communities because we believe everyone should have the skills to ask and signpost people to expert help.
